Celine Dion’s Husband Rene Battles Deadly Throat Cancer

Celine Dion's husband Rene Angelil is battling throat cancer again.

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil is battling throat cancer again.

Celine Dion has canceled her Asia tour and postponed all upcoming Las Vegas residency performances indefinitely to help her husband during his second battle with throat cancer.

Rene Angelil, 72, has reportedly suffered a health setback after having a tumor removed from his throat in December 2013.

This is the second time Angelil is battling throat cancer. Rene previously underwent treatment for throat cancer in 1999. In 2000, at the peak of her career, Dion took a two-year hiatus to care for Angélil during his health struggle.

Céline herself has battled health issues. She gave birth to healthy twins in October 2010, but suffered a devastating miscarriage the previous year, and underwent six in-vitro fertilization attempts before getting pregnant again. Angélil and Dion have three young children, René-Charles, 13, and three-year-old fraternal twins, Eddy and Nelson.

Dion, who married Angelil in 1994, said her family is more important than all the fame and success in the world. “My kids give me the balance to live right,” said Celine, who has released 25 studio albums, including Loved Me Back To Life.

“The hardest thing to find in life is balance — especially the more success you have, the more you look to the other side of the gate. But my biggest reward in the success that is my life are my husband and kids.”

Michael Douglas Overcame Stage 4 Throat Cancer

Another celebrity who has battled throat cancer is actor Michael Douglas, who recently discussed his 40-pound weight loss and grueling chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage four throat cancer in 2010. Douglas, who’s now healthy and well at 69, was shocked when he was first diagnosed with advanced throat cancer, after having been misdiagnosed three times.

“When I learned that I had stage four cancer, I’m pretty sure that my eyes rolled into the back of my head,” said Michael. “That was probably the scariest moment I faced.”

Douglas underwent seven weeks of chemotherapy and radiation and chemotherapy and lost more than 40 pounds after opting not to get a surgery that would have put a feeding tube in his stomach. Michael decided against the surgery because it would have permanently affected his taste and ability to swallow food.

Douglas’ cancer also affected the health of his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, who confessed she “was a mess” throughout Michael’s chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
