Comedian Chelsea Handler loves to shock fans with outrageous topless and nude photos, and this week was no exception.
Handler, who turns 40 on Feb. 25, posted yet another topless picture baring her breasts while overlooking what appears to be downtown Manhattan.
“Thanks for having me, twitter,” Chelsea wrote in the caption. Handler, who’s known for her over-the-top, shock-value comedic stunts, said she doesn’t understand why Instagram has tried to ban her topless photos in the past. “Now I’m just in a war with Instagram trying to keep my topless photos on it,” Chelsea told Elle magazine. “I don’t understand why nipples are nudity. Who cares? Men can show their nipples, but if we have breasts we can’t show them?”
Handler added: “And so if you’re flat-chested are you allowed to show your nipples? Is that better? And can I show one nipple, but not two? I don’t even understand. Once somebody tells me I can’t do something I have to figure out how to do it.”
While nudity may be a joke to Chelsea, fitness is one thing she takes seriously. Handler, who battled weight issues in the past, credits a low-carb diet and Pilates workouts for her fit bikini body, Examiner reported.
“My parents were not the healthiest eaters,” said Chelsea. “My mom was a great cook, but her idea of a light after-school snack was mac and cheese and brownies. So of course I was like, ‘Why am I 15 and struggling with my weight?’ It took me a long time to de-program myself after I moved to L.A.”
Handler’s mom died in 2006 after a long battle with cancer, and her father underwent quadruple-bypass surgery several years ago. Those events prompted the TV host to make some major lifestyle changes
The key to getting in, and maintaining, her slim physique is eating fresh, wholesome foods and doing regular Pilates workouts, said Handler. Pilates promotes long, lean muscles and tight abs, said Kristin McGee, creator of the Weight Loss Pilates workout DVD.
For lunch, she has sushi, and for dinner she usually eats grilled sea bass, chicken, or green salad with turkey meat loaf. Handler snacks on turkey and arugula salad during the day and limits processed food.
After trying every workout in the book, she finally found one she loves that works for her. “I’ve tried them all,” said Handler.
“But I’d usually end up quitting because I’d get bored. Or, as with yoga, after months of doing it, I’d still have belly flab. And doing cardio at the gym can be so annoying!”
But Pilates is perfect for her. “It has been the most gentle on my body,” says Handler, author of Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. “I’m longer and leaner and much more graceful. I can honestly say it’s changed my body, and my life.”
Thanks to her healthier lifestyle, Chelsea now feels as good as she looks. “Not only am I fitter, I feel more energized and focused too,” said Handler, whose new book, Uganda Be Kidding Me, comes out in March.
