Salma Hayek is smoking-hot at 49, thanks to her anti-aging fitness and beauty secrets, which include restorative yoga, a portion-controlled diet and a skin cream for burn victims.
While most celebrities work out rigorously to stay in shape, Salma hates structured exercise, and prefers to do restorative yoga, a gentle form of yoga that uses props to promote mindfulness and relaxation, Examiner reported.
“Some people have the discipline to exercise in the morning, and I didn’t develop that,” said Hayek. “I don’t have time to exercise. I am working. I’ve had some 20-hour [work] days.” Salma continued: “I work with a woman in London who taught me how to hold my body in a way where the muscles are activated all day long, so even when you brush your teeth, you’re working the muscles.
“She taught me to tone [my muscles] without clenching them. You relax them and focus on the parts that need to be used, but never with tension. If you’re aware of your body, you’d be surprised by the effect it can have.”
Restorative yoga helps you de-stress, improves sleep and benefits your entire body, said Gail Boorstein Grossman, author of Restorative Yoga for Life.
Hayek’s beauty secrets include a rejuvenating lotion for burn victims that heals your skin. “I use an ingredient called Tepezcohuite that’s used in Mexico for burn victims because it completely regenerates the skin, and there’s no one in the States who is using this ingredient except for us,” said Salma.
Salma added: “Some of the ingredients, when I took them to the American labs, they were like ‘How come nobody is using this?’ This is why I have no Botox, no peels, no fillings. I’m 48. I will be 49 this year and I only use my creams.”
Hayek recently launched her own line of anti-aging skincare and haircare products called Salma Hayek Nuance, for which she is clearly an effective spokesmodel.
Salma, who has gotten even more beautiful with age, swears by the Nuance Correcting Spot Treatment, which she claims zaps acne and other blemishes.
“If you put it on at night, you have nothing the next day,” said Hayek. “It has licorice extract, so not only does it help take away the pimple, but it helps lighten the blemish.” Salma has been married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault since 2009. The couple has one daughter, Valentina, who was born in 2007.
Hayek said she has gotten happier and healthier with age because she has learned to slow down and enjoy life more.
“I begin [my day] with coffee,” said Salma. “Not the greatest, but that’s what I do. And sometimes I like Yerba Mate tea when I run out of juice, and I love eggs. Boiled eggs, poached eggs. Sometimes what I do is have—even if they’re boiled—three whites and one yolk.”
Even though she’s married to a billionaire and lives a life of luxury, Hayek enjoys cooking and preparing meals on her own.
“I do a lot of really good recipes with quinoa,” said Salma. “I change it all the time, but I do one quinoa where I put curry and then some sautéed vegetables, and then add the quinoa, and then continue to cook the quinoa with the vegetables and the curry powder, and some Indian spices that I can get in London. And you have a complete meal.”
