Josephine Skriver, one of the newest Victoria’s Secret Angels, has it all. But keeping it is another matter. The Dutch model has to work at her figure just like everyone else, and that means frequent workouts and healthy eating. But the payoff is huge. Here’s how she does it.
Skriver, 23, has traveled the world for fashion shoots and worked with some of the best photographers and stylists in the business.
While her specialty for Victoria’s Secret is lingerie and bathing suits, she also one of their top sportswear models.
She’s walked in every Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since 2013 and was tapped to join the brand’s elite corps of Angels this past February.
It helps, she says, to live an active lifestyle.
She was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her mother, an IT analyst and father, a marine biologist are both gay. She and her younger brother, Oliver, were both conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
By the time she was 15, she stood out in a crowd. She was a willowy 5-feet, 11-inches tall. She was discovered during a trip to New York City with her local soccer team. So it helps to be athletic.
“I love an active lifestyle, I always had that as a kid,” she said in an interview earlier this year.
She made her modeling debut in a major runway show during the Fall/Winter 2011 season. She landed two prestigious spots, opening for Alberta Ferretti and closing for Prada.
She also walked in her debut season for Calvin Klein, rag and bone, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, DKNY and Christian Dior, according to media reports.
As a swimsuit and lingerie model for Victoria’s Secret, working out became a regular part of her life.
“I think what really works is when you find something that’s fun for you, because, you know, going to the gym every day, doing the same routine over and over again, definitely gets dragging at the end,” she says.
Her favorite gym is the Dogpound in New York City. “It’s kind of bootcamp style so one day it’s boxing, other days it’s weightlifting and then it’s only body weights so we always keep it up and its always different,” she says.
But her fitness routine isn’t confined to the gym. “I also love things like biking. I love being one with nature, so a hike or a bike ride or anything that gets me out,” she says.
Diet is another matter. Josephine is so active, dieting is secondary. And yes, she likes to indulge in her weakness–chocolate.
“I don’t really believe in diets. I think it’s all about keeping things healthy. I love protein, I’m a big meat eater, so anything that’s like, you know, whatever works for you, just keep it in moderation.”
She’s on the road so much, she also packs in healthy snacks. Nuts and fruit are her favorites.
