Oscar winner Charlize Theron, who plays the evil queen in the upcoming film “Snow White and the Huntsman” recently kicked an evil habit of her own… smoking.

“I was highly addicted,” Theron, 36, says in the Dec. 2011 issue of Vogue. “I thought, I don’t smoke like normal people. I smoke to die.”
The South African stunner reportedly smoked up to three packs of cigarettes a day, and is rumored to have used hypnotherapy to help her kick the habit.

Ellen DeGeneres and Matt Damon have also reportedly used the therapy to give up their habits.
Amazingly, Theron looks leaner and fitter than ever, apparently having managed to avoid the weight gain typically associated with smoking cessation.
Along with kicking the habit, Charlize, a former dancer, also adopted a healthier lifestyle that includes Pilates and yoga.

Theron, who split from actor boyfriend Stuart Townsend after nine years together, is happily single for the first time in 17 years she says.
“I’ve never been single,” says Charlize. “This is the first time in my life. From the time I was 19, I’ve been in relationships, literally gone from one to the other within a month.”
Theron, who appears next in the drama Young Adult, is basking in her newfound single status for now.
“It’s been good for me,” she says. “I’m a creature who’s really found her comfort zone in relationships.
“It’s been nice to rediscover myself. I had to make a real conscious effort to do it—it’s hard,” she explains.
“It’s much easier to lose yourself in flowers and cigarettes and coffee with somebody else.”
Besides playing the evil queen in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” Theron is gearing up for the release of her new romantic comedy, “Young Adult,” written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman.
“Young Adult” hits theaters Dec. 16.

It is relatively easy for an actor to quit smoking via hypnosis as they are able to go into trance, which is very similar to acting out different characters in a play or film. They have to believe they are that character for just that moment in time and so be in their own trance state.
