Jessica Simpson Hits Leno Show Talks Pregnancy

Jessica Simpson, who could give birth any day now, still managed to sit down with Jay Leno to discuss her pregnancy. She revealed that it’s probably really going to hurt giving birth.

“Labor is really going to hurt,” Simpson said. “I have so much respect for my mom and all the women across the world.”

Although Simpson was on the show to promote her new reality television show, “Fashion Star,” she shared a lot of details about her impending motherhood.

“We’re waddling now,” she said as she walked onto the set.

“I thought, gee, the commercial is running a little long here maybe we’re having the baby,” Jay replied.

Simpson still has a few more weeks to go before she’s due to give birth, and she revealed that she had a scare with some late night contractions.

“It doesn’t feel like I have a lot of time,” she explained. “You have these things called Braxton Hicks, which are contractions that scared the living daylights out of me.

“So like in the middle of the night, I’m like, ‘Eric, it’s happening, it’s happening, but it’s not supposed to happen yet,” she said, referring to her fiance, former NFL player Eric Johnson.

Braxton Hicks contractions, so named after the English doctor who discoverd them in 1872, are your body’s way of preparing for labor, according to medical references. They are relatively painless, irregular and infrequent and can be felt starting around the 26th week of pregnancy.

Simpson acknowledged that she and Johnson weren’t practicing safe sex, resulting in her not-totally unexpected pregnancy. She said they were about to go visit friends and have cocktails and she felt a sudden overwhelming sense of guilt. “Maybe I should go pee on a stick,” she said.

Still, it’s been a little awkward since they aren’t married, although they were engaged.

“I want him to be my husband so bad, and I do still want to wear the pretty gown and everything, and I have to wait until after the baby,” Simpson said. “And now [our daughter will] just be in the wedding!”

Simpson, who has made a fortune with her own fashion brand, said she was wearing six-inch heels even though she’s pregnant. Check out the interview below:
