At the age of 92, socialite Ruth Mueller lives an incredibly active life, and she swears her daily yoga regimen is the reason for her stamina and health.
She regularly plays golf, hosts parties, underwrites art exhibits, and volunteers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, where she lives. Her incredible story is captured in a new book.
Her memoir, “One Minute Before Midnight,” co-authored with celebrity author Mark Bego, details her daring escape from Nazi Germany in 1939. She came to America with virtually no money and had to go to work immediately to support herself.
But she didn’t just survive; she ended up one of most successful business women of the 1950s and 1960s. By the time she finished her career, she was the president of her own company, which she eventually sold for millions of dollars in the 1980s.
Since then, she has continued to live an active, fulfilling life.
“People nowadays always ask me how I stay so active in my 90s. I am a firm believer that you have to take care of your mind and your body,’ she says.
“One of the ways that I do that is by doing my yoga exercises every morning, and I highly recommend it to everyone. I used to be able to stand on my head, but I don’t do that very much any more. I now prefer yoga instead!”
Bego says of this unique collaboration: “This project was as exciting a one as I’ve ever done. Unlike my celebrity books, Ruth Mueller is not a subject who is known to the general public. However, her story is just as fascinating and entertaining.
“She is a truly independent woman who has lived her life by her own rules. Not only did she stand up to the Nazis, she also demonstrates the way I plan on living into my 90s and 100s!” he says.
