Pop singer Ke$ha has caused an uproar after drinking her own pee on her MTV special “KeSha: My Crazy Beautiful Life.” The singer, known for her eccentric behavior, has been strongly condemned by a conservative television watchdog, calling the act “vile.” So is she crazy?

Not as crazy as it may seem at first glance. But what most people don’t realize is that urine is a waste product expelled from your body.

It’s the result of blood filtration through the liver, and many people believe its healthy to drink it, according to medical references.

What the parent’s group said: “It is an outrage that this kind of disgusting, vile content is being subsidized by each and every cable subscriber. We should all have the ability to choose and pay for only the channels we want to watch, but the cable industry won’t let that happen without a fight.”

Famous urine drinkers include former Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who lived to the ripe old age of 99, British actress Sarah Miles and author J.D. Salinger. Madonna said she urinated on her own feet to help cure her athlete’s foot.

Ke$ha downed her own urine because a friend told her it would help her get in “kick ass shape” for her “Die Young” music video, according to the MTV show. She peed into a water bottle and drank the contents on air. Take that Kim Kardashian.

But the parents’ group didn’t wait for the show to air. It issued a preemptive news release condemning the act as “disgusting” and “vile.”

The group is citing the incident to champion legislation on Capitol Hill that would give parents the right to only pay for television networks they want, instead of being forced to buy a basic cable package of networks.

“I heard it was good for you. That was, like, the rumor,” the singer told The Hollywood Reporter. So what do medical authorities say about the practice?

As it turns out, urine is 95 percent water, with small quantities of urea, calcium, folic acid, iron, magnesium and zinc. According to mainstream medical authorities drinking your urine has no known health benefit. Check out the video below
