Rob, 27, had several shirtless scenes in the “Twilight” film saga, although he candidly admits that his prominent abs were spray-painted on for some of those.
And, he says he probably pays a price for not being in the best shape.
“I think I don’t get some jobs because I don’t go to the gym,” he tells the Arabian edition of Harper’s Bazaar in a new interview. “I am literally the only actor in LA who doesn’t have a six-pack,” he says. “Although I am going to have to change that.”
His post-roles “Twilight,” roles are increasingly involving intimate scenes, and that’s providing the motivation to hit the gym.
“In my next film I have like three intimate scenes so I am literally thinking of those to get in shape,” he explains. But it won’t change his aversion to exercising.
“I don’t ever want anyone to see me doing exercise,” he says. “Even though I am doing it, I still think it’s so lame and embarrassing;
I am doing it out of necessity, that’s all.”
Rob is looking out for his health in other ways. During the interview, he puffs on an electronic cigarette, and obvious sign that he is continuing his struggle to quit smoking real cigarettes.
The other thing Rob is determined to protect is his peace of mind. He doesn’t buy into the Hollywood scene–“it’s not really me so I have never really felt attached to it”– but also recognizes that he is the object of intense public scrutiny.
“It’s an amazing job, especially if you don’t let yourself go crazy, but there are loads of jobs that make you go crazy,” he says about acting.
“I am very anti-paparazzi, but I guess you kind of get used to the thing. In fact I just started getting better at hiding,” he adds. “As soon as you figure out a way to live where people don’t follow you around, stress levels go down.”
