Nikki Reed: How I Lost Weight, Quit Smoking

nikki-reedTwilight star Nikki Reed says she lost weight and quit smoking recently, thanks to her new boyfriend, Paris Latsis. ”When you date someone who loves the outdoors, it’s inspiring,” Reed, 21, says.

Quitting while filming the “Twilight” saga must have been difficult. Much of the cast of “Twilight” and “New Moon” including Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson smoke. Rob has been described as a chain smoker.

But Reed, and co-star Ashley Greene have both quit smoking recently because they want to be better role models for fans.

Nikki, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale in Twilight and its sequel New Moon, says being with her health-oriented boyfriend encouraged her to quit smoking.

“Instead of gaining weight [after I stopped smoking], I lost weight,” says Reed. “I started going to the gym and taking care of myself. I’m into outdoor sports like hiking, windsurfing, water-skiing. I’m much more active and much happier.”

Latsis, 27, is a Greek shipping heir who dated socialite Paris Hilton, 28, in 2005. Nikki and Latsis have been dating since this summer.

As Twi-mania hits a fever pitch this week, Reed says she has adjusted somewhat to dealing with the overwhelming fan adoration and media obsession.

“Last year, I was like, hyperventilating [when I saw hordes of screaming fans],” says Nikki. “I don’t want to say I’ve gotten used to it, but my palms aren’t sweating as much. I love walking up to my fans and saying, ‘Thank you for coming.’ It’s more real.”

“New Moon” hits theaters this weekend.
