Former Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles slugger Sammy Sosa looks like he’s pulled a Michael Jackson. The dark complected Dominican Republic native appeared visibly lighter skinned in a recent public appearance.
The late Michael Jackson was notorious for changing the color of his skin, claiming he suffered from a pigmentation disorder, known as vitiligo. Sosa was photographed recently in Las Vegas looking several shades lighter than usual.
Compounding Sammy’s drastically altered appearance, he’s also wearing green contacts.
Experts speculate that Sosa either bleached his skin or is also suffering from the skin condition vitiligo. But Sammy’s friend says his lightened complexion is merely due to cosmetic skin resurfacing.
“He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,” says former Cubs employee and Sosa friend Rebecca Polihronis. “He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin. Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white.”
Sosa, who turns 41 on Nov. 12, has always been self-conscious about his appearance, she added.
“He has always been concerned with the way he looks,” she tells the Chicago Tribune. “He was doing a dermatological skin process after years and years [of playing baseball] in the sun.”
“The picture is deceiving. [Sammy] said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. It doesn’t look like the picture,” she explained.

Sosa retired from baseball in 2007. During his 18-year career, rumors swirled that Sammy had used anabolic steroids. In June 2009, The New York Times reported that Sammy had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.
The photos were taken when Sosa appeared recently at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, where he attended the Latin Grammy Awards.

White people spend billons for tanning products and no one bats an eye. Are they uncomfortable in their own skin? Sosa played baseball in the sun for years. Whether you know it or not, Black people tan and burn also. Let the man even out his skin tone if he wants to. Who gives a $##@*t anyway?
IT’S NO BIG DEAL! If you are dark you are free to do the same, if you are white and prefer the darker look, no problem get a tan.
If whites can tan to make their skin darker, why can’t darker races use bleach to lighten their skin? I mean this is almost 2010, it is a new age. I mean, come on, let the man live without people trying to shame him.
I think he looks absolutely GREAT! He, as opposed to Michael Jackson, is not ashamed or afraid of giving his beauty secrets away. MJ was absent for a period of months during which, evidently, he was permanently bleaching his skin (an MD on TV indicated that it was Benoquin/monobenzone that he used). Because after months of seclusion (during which he was undergoing the permanent bleaching), he suddenly surfaced on national TV with bone-white skin, and claiming it was due to vitiligo, which, if you look at his childhood photos can clearly see that he had no such thing.
It would be interesting to see if SS has any kind of reconstructive surgery, which would make him the new MJ, in my opinion. After all, MJ was born just an average looking person, but with all his money he could afford to have all the beauty procedures done, which is what he did. Sadly, though, MJ would not admit to much, even though his results were spectacular towards the end before he started going overboard.
I guess SS is the new MJ.
Ke kosa mas buena SS! Saliste guapisimo, no importa lo ke dice los celosos.
(In English it means: “What a good thing SS! You turned out to be really handsome, no matter what jealous people say”.)
