The Paleo diet is the most popular diet around today because it causes effortless weight loss and prevents disease, say obesity experts.
Dr. Jeff Davis, a physician, puts his patients on the low-carb, high-fat Paleo diet because it promotes optimal health, in addition to fueling rapid weight loss.
Dr. Davis said he can wholeheartedly recommended the Paleo diet because of its focus on whole, natural foods. “A lot of what we eat is Frankenfood,” Davis told the Wichita Eagle. “It’s made in a plant. It doesn’t come from a plant.”
Caleb Summers, a chef in Kansas City, Kan., said he lost 12 pounds in the first two weeks after switching to the Paleo diet in 2011. “I call it accidental weight loss,” Summers said.
Jason Fechter, a chiropractor and Summers’ business partner, said weight loss occurs naturally on the low-carb Paleo diet because you’re eating foods you were intended to eat.
“It’s because your body is shedding all the crap you’re been eating before,” said Fechter. “As long as we put things into our body that it can utilize, it does great.”
The Paleo diet emphasizes high-quality animal proteins, healthy fats, non-starchy vegetables, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, alcohol, and processed foods.
Celebs Go Paleo for Weight Loss and Health
The Paleo diet is soaring, and has a large celebrity following, including the Los Angeles Lakers, supermodel Adriana Lima, and actors Megan Fox, Jessica Biel, Robin Wright and Kellan Lutz.

Research suggests the Paleo diet accelerates weight loss, reduces blood pressure, and prevents cancer, diabetes, heart disease, depression, and even Alzheimer’s. TV star Jack Osbourne (the son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne) credits the Paleo diet for his 70-pound weight loss and for treating his multiple sclerosis.
A recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed the Paleo diet is twice as effective as other diets for weight loss and torching belly fat.
“Clinical trials have shown the Paleo diet is the optimum diet that can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, markers of inflammation, help with weight loss, reduce acne, promote optimum health and athletic performance,” said professor Loren Cordain, author of The Paleo Diet for Athletes and The Paleo Diet Cookbook.
Fitness expert Robb Wolf agrees. “The Paleo diet is the healthiest way you can eat because it is the only nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic,” said Robb, author of The Paleo Solution.
