Whoopi Goldberg attributed her recent 30-pound weight loss to Rocco DiSpirito’s “Pound a Day Diet.”
Goldberg, 58, made the revelation on the July 15 episode of the Dr. Oz Show, where she revealed she also recently quit her 46-year smoking habit.
The 5-foot-5 Whoopi said she had an epiphany when her weight climbed to 215 pounds. Goldberg, who has struggled with weight her entire life, decided at that moment that she was going to lose weight.
Whoopi told Dr. Oz she started following celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito’s Pound a Day Diet and lost 30 pounds fairly quickly.
DiSpirito’s Pound a Day Diet is a low-carb Mediterranean-style eating plan that involves calorie cycling. Rocco said it can help you lose a pound a day every five days without plateaus.
In the first week, dieters consume six low-carb, protein-rich meals totaling 850 calories on weekdays and 1,200 calories on the weekends. The following week, you consume more calories, but every week the diet changes, so your body never gets used to it, helping you avoid the inevitable weight-loss plateaus that frustrate so many people.
Rocco DiSpirito: I Lost 50 Lbs on Pound a Day Diet
DiSpirito, author of the bestseller Now Eat This, has credited his Pound a Day Diet for his own amazing 50-pound weight loss.
The 6-foot-1 Rocco slimmed down from 230 pounds to 180 pounds by changing his diet, and now boasts an impressive 10 percent body fat. The once sedentary DiSpirito is now an accomplished triathlete.
In response to criticism that his diet makes you lose weight too quickly, DiSpirito said his program is designed to produce rapid weight loss.
“The ‘Pound a Day Diet’ is as high-velocity as a weight-loss program can get,” DiSpirito told ABC. “Only liposuction provides faster results. I did the research. I know it works better [than liposuction] because I personally tested it on over three dozen people.”
In addition to losing weight, Whoopi also quit smoking after being enslaved by nicotine addiction for the past 46 years. Goldberg began smoking at age 12, and has tried many times to quit.
Whoopi said the turning point came after she saw a video from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation about two boys, Keith and Kennedy, who suffer from cystic fibrosis. People with cystic fibrosis have difficulty breathing because the condition causes mucus to collect in the lungs.
Goldberg said watching the video made her realize how much she took her health for granted, and decided to give up smoking once and for all. Whoopi now looks and feels better than she has in years.
