Michelle Obama Is Fat and Should Lose Weight, Says Fox News

First Lady Michelle Obama is in no position to offer diet advice to anyone because she could afford to lose some weight herself, claims a Fox News contributor.

Keith Ablow, a psychiatrist and member of Fox’s “Medical A-Team,” made the comment Aug. 12 on the Fox News program “Outnumbered” while discussing Obama’s “Let’s Move” anti-obesity campaign (see video).

Ablow said there’s no way Michelle is eating well all the time, based on his assessment of her body. “How well could she be eating? She needs to drop a few,” said Ablow. “Who am I taking nutrition advice from? Let’s be honest, like there’s no French fries [there]? That’s all kale and carrots? I don’t buy it.”

However, Ablow said he would take diet advice from President Barack Obama, because he is fit. “Her husband, I want some nutrition advice from Barack,” said Ablow.

Despite Ablow’s comments, Michelle Obama is considered one of the fittest first ladies ever to grace the White House. Obama is a longtime fitness fanatic who works out between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. every morning, doing a combination of cardio exercise, strength-training and plyometric moves.

Since turning 50, Mrs. Obama has adjusted her workout routine to incorporate more yoga and less intense cardio and weight-training, Examiner reported.

“I’m seeing myself shift from weight-bearing stuff — even though that continues to be important — and the heavy cardio and running, to things like yoga that will keep me flexible, so I’m not falling and breaking a hip one day,” said Michelle, 51. “I don’t obsess about what I eat, but I do make sure that I’m eating vegetables and fruit.”

Yoga is a great way to stay limber and toned if you’re over 50 because it’s low-impact and won’t damage your joints, said Barbara Benagh, creator of the Yoga Over 50 workout DVD.

The First Lady launched the “Let’s Move” campaign in 2010. The program is devoted to stemming the alarming epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States. As part of the initiative, Michelle encourages kids to eat healthier foods and to exercise daily.

For relaxation, Mrs. Obama enjoys gardening, and planted a vegetable garden on the White House’s South Lawn in 2009. She discussed her thriving garden in her book American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden.
