Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed the many health benefits of tea and examined social media addiction on the Aug. 20 episode of the Dr. Oz Show.

Studies show tea has a variety of health benefits, including aiding weight loss and alleviating stress and anxiety. Dr. Oz said the following teas have therapeutic benefits which have been backed up by research:

Chamomile tea. Chamomile is an anti-anxiety herb that has been shown to fight depression and reduce stress.

Passion flower tea. Passionflower extract has been shown to calm frazzled nerves, relieve anxiety and induce restful sleep.

Matcha green tea. Matcha green tea contains EGCG, an antioxidant that has been shown to burn fat and protect against the free-radical damage that causes aging and cancer.

Valerian root tea. Valerian root has natural compounds that have sedative qualities and can help you fall asleep more quickly.

Ginger tea. Ginger tea has anti-inflammatory properties and induces a relaxed mood by regulating cortisol.

Oolong tea. Oolong tea has been shown to help weight loss by boosting metabolism and increasing fat-burning. Oolong tea also contains polyphenols that help block fat-building enzymes.

White tea. White tea is rich in disease-fighting antioxidants that prevent your body from storing fat and prevents conditions such as cancer and diabetes.

On a separate segment, Dr. Oz discussed social media addiction. While social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are touted for bringing people closer together, experts are concerned that social media is causing people to become anti-social and spend more time living virtual, instead of real, lives.
