Joan Rivers was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City this morning (Aug. 28.) after she reportedly stopped breathing during surgery, according to reports.

Rivers, 81, was listed in critical condition, and may have suffered cardiac arrest.

Her condition has since been upgraded to “stable,” the hospital said this afternoon.

Last year, the comedian, who is known for her barbed comments and tart tongue, revealed that doctors had discovered a suspicious spot in her throat.

The scene was captured on her and daughter Melissa’s reality show: “Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?”

She had an x-ray after suffering from what she said was a persistent cough.

“We’re just not going to be sad about this,” Rivers said during the episode. “We’re gonna do jokes and be up until we know. That’s how I deal with things. I’m not just gonna sit around the next couple of days and go crazy.”

Whether the surgery was related to that incident or the celebrity was undergoing another plastic surgery procedure is unknown at this time.

The “Fashion Police” star was reportedly undergoing surgery on her vocal chords at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic when when the incident occurred shortly before 10 AM, according to Extra TV.

Rivers has worked almost non-stop for most of her career and was recently promoting her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva.
