Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reportedly scored $5 million for selling their wedding photos, but are donating the money to charity.
People and Hello! magazines each paid $2.5 million for various photos from Brad and Angelina’s fairytale Aug. 23 wedding at Château Miraval, the sprawling 35-room wine estate Angelina and Brad bought in 2008.
Before the wedding, Jolie and Pitt hand-picked a photographer they had worked with before to take the photos on their special day, the Mirror reported.
“Brad and Angelina knew their would be tremendous interest in their wedding pictures, and decided to donate the money to their charitable foundation,” said a source. “The couple has done this numerous times in the past.”
In 2008, they were paid $14 million to publish photos of their twins, Knox and Vivienne in 2008. The proceeds from both events went to the Maddox Jolie Pitt Foundation, the charity Angelina founded in 2003 after adopting son Maddox from Cambodia. The foundation supports various humanitarian projects around the world, especially for children in need.
Angelina looked like a princess in an elegant Atelier Versace gown customized by with artwork by her kids with Pitt: Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and Vivienne and Knox, 6.
“It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter,” Brad and Angie told Hello! “It was such a special day to share with our children and a happy time for our family.”
Jolie is doing well after undergoing a preventive double mastectomy in February 2013 after genetic testing revealed she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer and a 50 percent chance of contracting ovarian cancer.
As a result of her mastectomy, Angelina’s breast-cancer risk has dropped to under 5%. Jolie’s mother, aunt, uncle, grandmother and grandfather all died from cancer, forcing the Oscar winner to take the radical step of preemptively removing both her breasts.
Jolie said she will remove her ovaries in the near future. The ovary-removal procedure, called an oophorectomy, will lower the risk of ovarian cancer by 80%-90% by reducing the amount of estrogen and progesterone circulating in the body.
