Jane Fonda Turns 78 With New Workout DVD: Her Diet and Exercise Secrets Jane Fonda's anti-aging secrets at 77 are a healthy diet and daily exercise.

jane fonda workout dvd dietJane Fonda will celebrate her 77th birthday on Dec. 21 by re-releasing some of her bestselling workout DVDs.

Fonda, who has made over 25 workout videos, made the announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres Show Dec. 16.

Jane, a lifelong exercise fanatic, was a trailblazer in the booming workout video industry.

“Timing is everything,” said Fonda. “Prior to my first workout tape there was no video industry because it cost too much to buy the hardware to play it. My video came out and suddenly a lot of people said, ‘oh, I want to use that over and over.’ And it was worth their spending the money to get the hardware.”

“It really launched the video industry. Plus it launched women being OK with muscles. Back then if a woman went to a health club there would be a gym for men and nothing for women. We were not supposed to be strong and fit.”

Fonda looks fantastic at 77, thanks to daily exercise and a healthy diet, Examiner reported. “I eat fish, chicken and eggs,” said Jane. “I eat red meat maybe twice a week. I eat by color. I try to eat something dark green, dark purple, red, orange, yellow, white, because they all have different vitamins and minerals in them.”

Fonda said regular exercise is critical to successful aging. “It’s important to exercise when you’re younger,” said Jane. “It’s the No. 1 ingredient for successful aging. It makes a difference for all aspects of your life and your body.”

Like many exercise fanatics, Fonda exercises not only to look good, but to feel great. “I know what exercise has done to my life profoundly — not just my body, but my mind,” said Jane. “I do what makes me feel good.”

Fonda revealed her workout secrets in her best-selling fitness DVD, Jane Fonda Prime Time: Firm & Burn Low Impact Cardio.

As she has gotten older, Jane transitioned from the rigorous, high-impact aerobic exercise she extolled during the 1980s to gentler, lower-impact workouts. Fonda does yoga, strength-trains, walks, cycles, and uses the elliptical trainer.

Fonda, who has an artificial hip and titanium knee, admits she’s no longer as limber as she used to be, but says being an avid exerciser all her life has paid off.

“What motivates me is how good I feel afterwards,” she said. “I don’t wake up saying ‘Oh goody, I am going to work out.’ But I do it because of how it makes me feel when it’s over. If I’ve felt depressed or down at all, it picks me up and makes me feel great.”

Fonda shared her anti-aging diet, weight loss, workout and happiness secrets in her memoir, Prime Time: Love, Health, Sex, Fitness.
