Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis is ending her marriage to Todd Thompson after 11 years.
De Laurentiis, 44, made the surprise announcement on Facebook Dec. 29, noting the separation is amicable.
Giada made no mention of divorce, but it’s likely the couple will divorce soon. Todd and Giada have a six-year-old daughter, Jade. De Laurentiis wrote:
“After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage. Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family’s happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths.
Todd and I share a beautiful daughter and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything. We are so thankful for our friends and family, and really appreciate the support in this time of change.”
Giada married Thompson, a fashion designer, in 2003. The couple started dating when she was just 19, so it’s likely Todd was her first serious boyfriend.
In 2010, De Laurentiis said she had no desire to have more children with Thompson, citing her busy work schedule and full life.
“You don’t really know what it’s like to have kids until you have one of your own,” said Giada. “I have so many babies: the show, Todd and Jade.”
In November 2014, De Laurentiis made headlines after reports surfaced that her weight loss and diet secret was spitting out food instead of eating it.
“When Giada films her cooking show, she never eats. Never,” said a source. “When she is making drinks and food that she has to drink or eat, they have a dump bucket that is brought out the second they cut. She does not eat at all while filming.”
Giada, who’s constantly asked how she stays so thin despite being around food all day, previously said her weight loss secrets are a portion-controlled diet and yoga workouts, as Celebrity Health Fitness has reported.
De Laurentiis said she eats a little bit of everything but not a lot of anything and never overeats.
Giada, a longtime workout fanatic, also exercises almost every day, doing yoga, hiking and Pilates.
Yoga promotes weight loss and health by reducing stress, building lean muscles and suppressing appetite, said Jennifer Aniston’s yoga teacher, Mandy Ingber, author of Yogalosophy.
De Laurentiis, author of the bestselling cookbook Giada at Home, also makes a point to eat healthy foods, filling up on kale, brown rice, and olive oil instead of junky processed foods.
Interestingly, De Laurentiis said she got in better shape after scaling back on rigorous cardio workouts, which she did obsessively during her 20s and 30s.
“I was a big gym rat for a long time — treadmill, elliptical machine, StairMaster, weights,” Giada said. “But I started doing yoga and paddle-boarding, which is peaceful, almost like a meditation. And I go hiking.”
Giada shared her diet secrets and her favorite recipes in her 2013 bestseller, Giada’s Feel-Good Food: My Healthy Recipes and Secrets.
