Demi Lovato Talks Weight Loss: Battled Bulimia, Anorexia, Bipolar Disorder and Depression

Demi Lovato finally embraces her body after battling bulimia, anorexia and depression, saying she was beautiful before and after her recent weight loss.

Lovato posted a before and after Instagram photo (see above) showing off her weight loss during the past few months, writing:

“I was beautiful then, and I’m beautiful now. 2014 I decided to focus on bettering myself by making changes in my life with health, balance, endurance and consistency.”

Demi battled the eating disorders anorexia and bulimia and sought treatment for bipolar disorder and clinical depression, as Celebrity Health Fitness has reported.

Lovato also struggled with self-mutilation, routinely cutting herself during times of emotional distress. Demi manages her depression and bipolar disorder with therapy and medication.

Lovato encouraged her fans to take care of their health and make fitness a priority because a healthy diet and regular exercise are important for physical and emotional fitness.

“It’s all about loving and taking care of the only body you will ever have,” wrote Demi. “Cherish it, love it, embrace it.. Because when you do … It begins to show.”

Lovato said she wants to be a role model for other young girls suffering from similar problems. Demi is glad she went public with her problems because her experiences may be able to help others.

Lovato, who recently dropped her fourth studio album, Demi, is happy with her progress and has big dreams for her future.

“I’ve done that a lot over the past few years, but it has been so worth it, because the people in my life today inspire me to keep being creative, to have fun, and to be a good person,” said Lovato.

Demi Lovato detailed her harrowing struggle with dangerous weight loss, drug addiction, anorexia and bulimia in her memoir, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.
