At 56, Madonna exudes a brash self-confidence but revealed she never reported being raped at age 19 out of embarrassment.
Madonna made the surprising revelation during an interview on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show on March 11 (hear audio below).
Madonna, who previously spoke of her rape in a 2013 Harper’s Bazaar interview, said she was raped at knife-point shortly after moving to New York City from Michigan.
“I was in shock, I didn’t know a soul,” Madonna told Stern. “I was saying ‘hi’ to people on the street like a dork.”
The wide-eyed and innocent Madonna said her overly trusting and naive personality led to her rape.
“I was going to a dance class and the door was locked and I needed money for the pay phone,” she recounted. “[This guy] gave it to me. Hwas a very friendly guy. I trusted everybody.”
Madonna said the man suggested she make the phone call from his apartment, which was across the street. When she was alone with him, he raped her.
When Howard Stern asked whether she had ever reported the crime, Madonna said she did not. “You’ve already been violated,” she said. “It’s just not worth it. It’s too much humiliation.”
Madonna also revealed she briefly dated rapper Tupac Shakur during her twenties.
“I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is, he got me all riled up about life in general,” she said. “So when I went on the [David Letterman Show] I was feeling very gangster.” Since then, Madonna has become one of the most outspoken entertainers in the world. No longer bashful or modest, Madonna recently posed topless in the new ad campaign for her fragrance, Truth or Dare Naked, where she flaunts her toned torso.
The perfume is named after Madonna’s 1991 documentary, Truth or Dare, that chronicled her hugely successful “Blonde Ambition” tour.
Madonna said she’s living a calmer life now after having experimented with drugs during her youth, Examiner reported.
“I tried everything once,” said Madonna. “But as soon as I was high, I spent my time drinking tons of water to get it out of my system. As soon as I was high, I was obsessed with flushing it out of me. I was like, Okay, I’m done now.”
Madonna, a longtime workout fanatic who exercises up to two hours a day and follows a macrobiotic diet, said she picked up yoga again after lapsing on it for many years.
“I started doing yoga again, which I haven’t done in years and years and years,” said Madonna. “I’m so used to exercising with music playing very loud. And when you do yoga, you’re just listening to your breath.”
Yoga is anti-aging, reduces stress and promotes natural weight loss, said Jennifer Aniston’s yoga teacher, Mandy Ingber, author of the bestseller, Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover.
Madonna, whose mother died when the pop icon was just 6 years old, admits to having an obsession with death, saying her hyper-awareness of death motivates her to live her life more fully.
“I became very obsessed with death, and the idea that you never know when death will arrive,” Madonna confessed. “So one has to do as much as possible all the time to get the most out of life.”
