Maria Kang, the “hot mom” who was slammed for criticizing moms who don’t lose their baby weight, has released a fitness book where she shares her diet, exercise and weight loss secrets.
Kang, who has battled bulimia and weight issues her entire life, empathizes with women who struggle to lose weight, and said anyone can get in the best shape of their lives if they want.
In her book, The No More Excuses Diet, Maria shares seven weeks of workout routines you can do at home without any gym equipment. Kang, a mom of three, also reveals she follows a diet that’s 30% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat and 10% “cheat” items.
Kang first became famous in 2013, after writing a fat-shaming Facebook post that asked moms what their excuse was for not losing their baby weight.
Maria, who slimmed down to 125 pounds eight months after giving birth to her third child, was accused of arrogantly fat-shaming women after she flaunted her hot body on Facebook, Examiner reported.
Maria Kang posted a photo of herself with her three small children with the caption “What’s your excuse?” and ignited a vicious backlash from critics who accused her of being judgmental, vain, condescending, delusional, attention-starved and egotistical.
Kang claimed she wanted to show women they didn’t have to accept being overweight simply because they had children (or any reason, for that matter), but says she was slammed with nasty insults.
While most commenters left positive remarks and commended Maria for following a healthy diet and working out regularly, others said she was boasting and criticizing moms who don’t lose baby weight quickly.
The onslaught of comments spurred Kang to post a sarcastic apology on Facebook to her critics:
I’m sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won’t go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two businesses, have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer. I won’t even mention how I didn’t give into cravings for ice cream, french fries or chocolate while pregnant or use my growing belly as an excuse to be inactive.
What I WILL say is this. What you interpret is not MY fault. It’s yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn’t create them. You created them. So if you want to continue ‘hating’ this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life. You can either blame, complain or obtain a new level of thought by challenging the negative words that come out of your own brain.
With that said, obesity and those who struggle with health-related diseases is literally a ‘bigger’ issue than this photo. Maybe it’s time we stop tip-toeing around people’s feelings and get to the point. So What’s Your Excuse?”
The 5-foot-4 Maria, who tipped the scales at 175 pounds during one of her pregnancies, is stunned by the backlash because she worked so hard to achieve her fit post-baby body.
Maria, who overcame the eating disorder bulimia, slimmed down after her pregnancies by watching her calories and working out for 30 to 60 minutes, five to six days a week, combining cardio and strength-training. Kang says following a clean, portion-controlled diet is the No. 1 secret for weight loss.
“People often use lack of time as an excuse when it comes to weight loss,” said Maria. “The truth is, is that it’s mostly diet. I don’t finish my son’s peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I don’t eat ice cream when it’s hot or indulge in chocolate when I’m stressed. I have a very clean diet and THAT is my biggest weapon.”
