Kelly Ripa and Elle Macpherson both credit the Alkaline Diet for their hot bikini bodies, saying reducing the acid in your diet promotes weight loss, improves digestion and gives you glowing skin.
Kelly recently did an alkaline diet cleanse after suffering repeated injuries such as stress fractures and pulled muscles. She swears her low-acid diet has dramatically improved her chronic muscle pain.
“I’ve been working with this guy. His name is Dr. Darryl Geoffrey, and he is a chiropractor, but also a nutritionist,” Ripa said on Live! With Kelly and Michael. “And he put me on this cleanse.
“It’s an antacid high-alkaline cleanse, and it has changed my life. I swear, I think it’s responsible for me not being in pain.”
Kelly, a fitness fanatic who works out every day, said unlike other cleanses that call for severe calorie restriction, her Alkaline Diet enables her to eat a lot.
“You’re not hungry. You eat,” said Ripa. “I actually eat much more on this cleanse than I do in my actual life, but it’s what you eat and how you eat it.”

The alkaline diet includes plenty of fresh green vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, spices, seeds and nuts. The theory is that eating a diet high in alkaline-producing foods will minimize acid buildup in our bodies (which fuels inflammation, aging, and weight gain).
When you ingest too many acidic foods, your pH levels get disrupted, causing weight gain and disease, said Dr. Stephan Domenig, author of The Alkaline Cure.
“Many people start the day with coffee followed by toast and jam, cake for morning tea, then meat and a tiny amount of veg for dinner — all of these are acid-forming,” said Domenig.
