Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller dropped from a size 24 to a size 16 without diet, exercise or weight loss surgery. Miller said her shocking weight loss was due to a violent reaction to her diabetes medication.
Abby Lee, who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2014, ran out of her medication while filming in Australia.
Miller said the diabetes drug in Australia was different from the one she usually gets in the U.S., and it caused her to vomit profusely and hardly eat.
“I had to get a prescription refilled – lo and behold, there’s something different about that prescription in Australia,” Miller told People June 3. “I would take this medicine and within an hour, I was vomiting like I was in fourth grade and had the flu or like I had food poisoning. It was awful. After I would throw up, I couldn’t even look at food for the rest of the day.”
Abby Lee, 49, continued: “So that is how I lost the weight. There’s no diet, there’s no exercise, there’s no this, there’s no that.”
Miller slammed reports she underwent weight loss lap-band surgery, saying that would have been the easy way out of her obesity problem. “That would have been easy,” said Abby Lee, who said she never even set out to lose weight. Miller said her weight loss snowballed after her mom’s death in February 2014.
At the time, Miller said she was filming “Dance Moms” in a Los Angeles studio that had no air conditioning. “It was hot as hell, so nobody was eating a lot,” said Abby Lee, author of Everything I Learned about Life, I Learned in Dance Class.
That, coupled with the constant running around she did as her late mom was battling colon cancer, led to her jaw-dropping weight loss, which appears to be close to 100 pounds.
Even though losing weight was not her goal, Miller is grateful for the positive reaction she has received after her drastic weight loss.
“I’m not slim by any means,” said Miller, star of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. “I have a long, long way to go.”
Season 6 of “Dance Moms” premieres June 9 on Lifetime.
