Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are divorcing after 10 years of marriage, the couple confirmed in a statement. Ironically, Affleck and Garner celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary on June 29.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple revealed in a joint statement.
“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
Affleck, 42, and Garner, 43, have three children: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.
While the superstar couple presented a united front, sources claim Ben and Jen have been in marriage therapy for years and almost divorced three years ago.
“They were in couples therapy for years,” said an insider. “They were going to divorce when Sam was born, but you know how it is: Baby comes and solves the issues for a bit but it’s just a Band-Aid. It hasn’t been working for ages.”
Rumors of divorce have dogged the A-list couple for several months. Ben and Jennifer were regarded as one of Hollywood’s most stable marriages.
In 2014, Jennifer admitted her marriage was no longer in the courtship phase. “You can’t expect to be courted all the time, and I don’t want to court him right now,” said Garner. “I don’t have the energy!
“But we’re definitely in a very mindful place where we’re making an effort to be together, do things at the same time, and be loving.”
Affleck has praised Garner for being a stabilizing influence in his life following his high-profile split from Jennifer Lopez in 2004.
“Getting to know her, falling in love with her and being connected with her gave me a foundation to reach out and say, ‘Okay, I’m going to do Hollywoodland. I’m going to direct Gone Baby Gone,’ ” Affleck told Playboy. “Those were the steps forward I needed to put positive stuff on the board.”
Ben and Jen met on the set of the 2003 action flick, Daredevil, and married in 2005.
