Salma Hayek poses topless in the August 2014 issue of Allure and admits she used to be terrified at the idea of turning 50 but has since changed her mind.
“For too many generations, women have suffered from this terrible lie that age 50 is like falling off a cliff,” Salma told the Mirror. “Women have believed for so long we’d act and feel as if we were finished, and we surrendered to that myth.”
Hayek, who gave birth to her first and only child at age 41, used to wonder (with terror) how she would look as she got older.
“In the past, when I tried to imagine what I’d look like and what my life would be like at this age, I was terrified,” said Salma. “I imagined myself looking old, but I think I still look okay, and I’m fine with my appearance.”
Hayek, whose anti-aging beauty and fitness secrets are a sensible diet, restorative yoga workouts and careful skincare, is relieved after realizing women can still be vibrant and attractive after 50.
“Fifty is a great age where we can be very productive and happy and not feel limited by anything,” said Salma. “I’ve realized I can still be beautiful and attractive as I approach 50. I feel very good about my life.”
Of course, aging is easier if you look as youthful and hot as Salma does.
Hayek credits restorative yoga, a high-fat diet and a skincare cream for burn victims for her age-defying beauty, as Celebrity Health Fitness has reported.
Salma hates structured exercise, and prefers to do restorative yoga, a gentle form of yoga that uses props to promote mindfulness and relaxation.
“Some people have the discipline to exercise in the morning, and I didn’t develop that,” said Hayek. “I don’t have time to exercise. I am working. I’ve had some 20-hour [work] days.”
Salma continued: “I work with a woman in London who taught me how to hold my body in a way where the muscles are activated all day long, so even when you brush your teeth, you’re working the muscles.
“She taught me to tone [my muscles] without clenching them. You relax them and focus on the parts that need to be used, but never with tension. If you’re aware of your body, you’d be surprised by the effect it can have.”
Restorative yoga helps you de-stress, improves sleep and benefits your entire body, said Gail Boorstein Grossman, author of Restorative Yoga for Life.
Hayek’s beauty secrets include a rejuvenating lotion for burn victims that heals your skin.
“I use an ingredient called Tepezcohuite that’s used in Mexico for burn victims because it completely regenerates the skin, and there’s no one in the States who is using this ingredient except for us,” said Salma.
Salma added: “Some of the ingredients, when I took them to the American labs, they were like ‘How come nobody is using this?’ This is why I have no Botox, no peels, no fillings. I’m 48. I will be 49 this year and I only use my creams.”
Hayek recently launched her own line of anti-aging skincare and haircare products called Salma Hayek Nuance, for which she is clearly a fantastic spokesmodel.
Salma, who has gotten even more beautiful with age, swears by the Nuance Correcting Spot Treatment, which she claims zaps acne and other blemishes.
“If you put it on at night, you have nothing the next day,” said Hayek. “It has licorice extract, so not only does it help take away the pimple, but it helps lighten the blemish.”
Salma has been married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault since 2009. The couple has one daughter, Valentina, who was born in 2007.
Hayek said she has gotten happier and healthier with age because she has learned to slow down and enjoy life more.
“I begin [my day] with coffee,” said Salma. “Not the greatest, but that’s what I do. And sometimes I like Yerba Mate tea when I run out of juice, and I love eggs. Boiled eggs, poached eggs. Sometimes what I do is have—even if they’re boiled—three whites and one yolk.”
