Tom Cruise: Top Gun 2 Would Be Fun As Long As I Fly My Own Jets and There’s No CGI

Tom Cruise would love to film “Top Gun 2,” as long as he gets to fly his own jets and there’s no CGI (computer-generated imagery) involved.

The hit 1986 action flick Top Gun catapulted Cruise onto the Hollywood A-list. Tom, who played Naval fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, said filming a sequel would be “fun.”

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it would be fun to do,” Cruise told Extra TV (see video). “I’d like to fly those jets again. But no CGI on the jets.”

Tom, a licensed pilot since 1994, said he got to do some of his own flying when he filmed “Top Gun.”

“I remember when I did the first one, I said, ‘Look, in my contract I had to have three flights in the F-14,'” Cruise recounted. “Luckily they wanted me bad enough to do it, so I was able to do that. I’m saying right now: No CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun.”

“Top Gun” has grossed over $356 at the box office worldwide. Tom Cruise’s films have grossed a combined $5.5 billion worldwide.

Cruise, 53, has not slowed down despite getting older, saying he’ll continue to make action films as long as he can, Examiner reported.

“I’m just going to keep going, as long as I can do it,” said Tom. “I love making action movies.”

Cruise is currently promoting “Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation,” the fifth installment in the blockbuster Mission Impossible franchise.
