Melissa McCarthy celebrated her 45th birthday Aug. 26, and is having the time of her life after launching her Melissa McCarthy Seven7 clothing line earlier this month.
Melissa, who recently lost 50 pounds, said her weight loss secret was a low-carb diet, Examiner reported.
“Melissa has been on a high-protein, low carb diet,” said a source. “She’s been making small changes and seeing big results.”
McCarthy’s weight loss motivation was a desire to be healthy for her daughters, Vivian and Georgette, with husband Ben Falcone.
Melissa, who has struggled with weight her entire adult life, said she wants to empower women of all sizes with her clothing line. The Melissa McCarthy Seven7 collection is not just for plus size women, she underscored.
Melissa decided to launch her own clothing line after being unable to find flattering outfits in her size.
“People don’t stop at size 12,” said Melissa. “I want women to get dressed every day and feel good about themselves.”
McCarthy said she has dreamed designing her own clothing line since she was in grade school.
“From grade school until age 20, I had one thought in my head, which was doing women’s clothing,” said Melissa. “To get to come back to it is kind of crazy. It’s pretty dreamy.”
The Melissa McCarthy Seven7 apparel line, contains 80 pieces from sizes 4 to 28 ranging in price from $59 to $159.
Since unveiling her 50-pound weight loss in May, McCarthy has continued losing more weight, and appears thinner than she has in years.
Melissa lost 50 pounds by following a low-carb, high-protein diet. She also worked out, doing Pilates and walking, as Celebrity Health & Fitness previously reported.
McCarthy has not specified which low carb diet she followed, but Megan Fox and Tim McGraw both lost dramatic amounts of weight on a low-carb diet.
Low carb diets such as the Atkins, ketogenic and Atkins diets promote rapid weight loss by encouraging the body to burn fat for fuel, according to obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.
Fitness expert Robb Wolf, a former biochemist, agrees. Studies show limiting sugar, refined carbs and processed foods in your diet reverses type 2 diabetes, prevents heart disease and promotes weight loss, said Wolf, author of the bestselling Paleo Solution.
