College junior Cailyn Blonstein credits a low-carb diet and the bestselling book “The Shift” for her jaw-dropping 70-pound weight loss.
Blonstein lost 70 pounds in one year after being inspired by the dramatic transformation of “Good Morning America” contributor Tory Johnson, who detailed her own 80-pound weight loss in her book, The Shift.
The 5-foot-7 Blonstein, who once tipped the scales at 263 pounds, now weighs 193 pounds, thanks to a low-carb diet.
Cailyn’s jaw-dropping weight loss inspired her dad to lose 53 pounds and get in the best shape of his life. Cailyn told Yahoo she was inspired to overhaul her diet and change her life after reading “The Shift.”
“My aunt is a librarian and recommended I read Tory Johnson’s book The Shift,” said Blonstein. “I devoured the book, finishing it in two days. It spoke to me on so many levels.”
Cailyn said she lost weight quickly — without exercise — by eliminating refined carbs from her diet.
“The first thing I did was cut out all of the habits that were causing me to gain weight, like stopping for fast food multiple times per week and eating sweets (brownies, cookies, ice cream),” said Blonstein.
“I decided to try sticking to a low-carb diet and traded in my go-to chicken nuggets and french fries for grilled chicken salads.”
Cailyn was stunned how quickly the weight fell off after she went low-carb.
“In the beginning, it seemed like weight was falling off so quickly,” she said. “I was down 15 pounds … then 30, then 50! It was so fast on the scale.”
Encouraged by the dramatic changes in her body, Cailyn began exercising and continued to lose weight rapidly. Looking back on all her hard work, Blonstein couldn’t be happier with the results.
“I take a look at old photos of myself,” said Cailyn. “I see how unhappy I used to be and how unhealthy I was. Seeing those images is usually enough to snap me back into my routine. I am so thankful to be where I am.”
