Mama June Weight Loss: Honey Boo’s Mom Lost 150 Pounds With Low Carb Diet and Walking

Mama June Shannon, the mother of reality star Honey Boo Boo, lost 150 pounds and dropped 12 dress sizes with a portion-controlled, low-carb diet and three-mile daily walks.

Shannon started out at a size 28 and slimmed down to a size 16 with diet and exercise, as Celebrity Health Fitness previously reported.

In a recent Instagram photo, Mama June’s face looks dramatically slimmer after her 150-pound weight loss. June’s cheekbones are visible, and her double chin is smaller.

“I went from like a [size] 28 to a 16 — and these pants are a little too big!” said June. “Honestly, when I first started losing weight, it was just being more active, being busy with the show and doing more things with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

Shannon got diet and workout tips from celebrity trainer Natasha Fett, the author of The 10% Rule. Fett’s celebrity clients include singer Fergie and actor Matthew McConaughey.

“I met with this trainer [Natasha Fett] through my manager,” said Mama June. “Even though she’s 3,000 miles away, she’s still very supportive through everything.”

Shannon, a former couch potato, also started exercising regularly, walking 3 miles a day outside or on the treadmill. Fitness experts say walking is an excellent workout that’s low-impact, aids weight loss, prevents depression, and improves mood.

In 2013, Mama June lost 120 pounds with a low-carb diet.

Low-carb diets promote rapid weight loss by inducing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.

Limiting carbs and eating more healthy fats curbs hunger, boosts energy and controls cravings, said Maria Emmerich, author of Quick and Easy Ketogenic Cooking.

Mama June Shannon, who once tipped the scales at 400 pounds, is proud of her appearance.

“I’m happy with the way I am now, but I was also happy with myself when I was 400 pounds,” said Mama June.
