Alyssa Milano said her 46-pound post-baby weight loss was due to the low-carb Atkins diet.

The 5-foot-2 Milano slimmed down from 172 pounds to 126 pounds, thanks to her high-fat, low-carb, ketogenic-style Atkins diet, as Celebrity Health Fitness has reported.

Alyssa said eating lots of healthy fats curbed her hunger and gave her lots of energy.

“I feel so much better than I did before it’s crazy,” said Milano. “You know that feeling when you’re dieting where your stomachs growling and you’re angry and moody? There’s none of that [with Atkins], because you’re getting fats and proteins. It’s great!”

Surprisingly, Alyssa said breastfeeding didn’t help with weight loss at all.

“I don’t know who started that myth, but breastfeeding to me makes it harder,” said Milano.

Alyssa began the low carb, high-fat Atkins diet a few months ago to jump-start her weight loss after giving birth to her second child in September 2014.

Other celebrities who have lost weight on Atkins include Kim Kardashian, who lost 56 pounds six months after giving birth to daughter North in 2014, and Kendra Wilkinson, who lost 55 pounds on Atkins just five months after giving birth to her second baby, as Celebrity Health & Fitness has reported.

Low carb diets such as the Atkins and ketogenic plans promote rapid weight loss by inducing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.

Nutritionist Collette Heimowitz said low carb diets suppress appetite better than low-fat diets so you don’t feel hungry all the time like you do on low-calorie diets.

“Low-carb diets keep blood sugar levels stable and prevent food cravings,” said Heimowitz, author of New Atkins For a New You Cookbook.

Physician and Harvard University nutrition professor Dr. David Ludwig agrees.

Low carb diets curb hunger, keep you feeling full, and enhance mental clarity and mood, said Dr. Ludwig, author of the bestseller Always Hungry? Conquer Cravings, Retrain Your Fat Cells.
