Kendall Jenner is a supermodel with gorgeous skin, but suffered from severe acne that made her life miserable as a teen.
Kendall, 20, said her teenage acne “ruined her life” and made high school a living hell.
“I remember being really nervous for my first day of real high school,” Jenner wrote on her app Jan. 14. “Right before I started, like the week before, is exactly when I started to get acne.”
Kendall said her acne made her extremely self-conscious and eroded her self-esteem. “I was so freaked out and just kept waiting for it to pass, but it never did,” said Jenner.
Kendall said she felt so embarrassed by her bad skin she refused to look at people when she spoke to them. “I felt like such an outcast,” she recalled. “When I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face.”
Kendall has been acne-free for three years and recently got Laser Genesis treatment, which gets rid of acne scars, redness and large pores.
Many people have also found relief with ProActiv, which is used by celebrities Jessica Simpson, Adam Levine, and Katy Perry.
Kendall also moisturizes her skin as much as possible to prevent wrinkles and keep her skin dewy. “My moisturizer is by Elta MD, and it’s really good,” said Kendall. “It has sunscreen in it, so I wear sunscreen every day.”
Kendall, who’s one of the highest paid models in the world, has credited a high-protein diet, detox tea and regular workouts for her supermodel body, Examiner reported.
Jenner, who also enjoys hiking, works out four days a week with celebrity fitness expert Gunnar Peterson, who helped Khloe Kardashian lose 40 pounds.
“I do whatever he tells me to do, some cardio, some muscle-building to tone myself up,” said Kendall. “I’ll run to a gym and get on the treadmill. I also do a lot of ab work and planking.”
Jenner has been on fire for the past year, racking up high-profile magazine photo spreads and landing coveted modeling contracts with Estee Lauder, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Balmain.
Kendall, who has walked the runways in New York, Paris, London and Milan, said her fashion-week diet secrets include detox tea, plenty of sleep and lots of water.
“I usually start my day off with a cup of detox tea,” said Jenner. “I have 12 cups a day.” For snacks, Kendall eats low-sugar fruits like apples and strawberries and avoids processed junk food.
In 2014, Kendall’s half-sister, Kim Kardashian, lost 56 pounds in six months on a low carb ketogenic-style Atkins diet that limited her daily carb intake to less than 60 grams.
Limiting carbs encourages your body to burn fat for fuel, said Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity. Low-carb diet expert Dr. Jeff Volek agrees.
“Carbohydrate restriction is the proverbial ‘silver bullet’ for managing insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes,” said Volek, author of the bestseller, The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living.
Jenner said her experience with teenage acne has taught her to not care so much what others think and to be self-confident no matter what.
“Slowly, I’m working towards not caring and I’m just in so much of a better place about it all now that I’m older,” said Kendall. “I realized that it’s a part of life for some people and it doesn’t define who you are.”
