Mama June Shannon, the mother of reality TV star Honey Boo Boo, underwent a plastic surgery alternative to freeze the fat off her double chin following her 150-pound weight loss.

Mama June lost 150 pounds recently with a low-carb diet, walking and gym workouts. But her double chin didn’t go away, so she got a cosmetic procedure called CoolSculpting to freeze the excess fat off her chin, as Celebrity Health Fitness previously reported.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Sheila Nazarian  said cool sculpting kills fat by freezing it.

“Fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin or blood vessels or nerves so this technology gets the temperature down just far [enough] so the fat dies but nothing else is affected,” said Dr. Nazarian (see video).

It takes about 8 weeks to see full results, but Shannon is thrilled so far.

Mama June is also happy with her 150-pound weight loss, which she achieved with a low-carb diet and exercise, TheImproper reported. “I went from like a size 28 to a 16!” said June.

Low carb diets promote rapid weight loss by inducing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.

Obesity expert Dr. David Ludwig, agrees. “‘Eat less, exercise more’ doesn’t work,” said Dr. Ludwig, a physician and nutrition professor at Harvard University.

By reducing carbs and eating more healthy fats, you can accelerate weight loss and enjoy consistent energy during the day, said Dr. Ludwig, author of Always Hungry?

Shannon got workout tips from celebrity trainer Natasha Fett, the author of The 10% Rule. Fett’s celebrity clients include singer Fergie and actor Matthew McConaughey.

Shannon, a former couch potato, also started walking 3 miles a day outside or on the treadmill. Walking is an excellent workout that’s low-impact, aids weight loss, prevents depression, and improves mood, say fitness experts.

Mama June Shannon, who once weighed 400 pounds, is proud of herself. “I’m happy with the way I am now, but I was also happy with myself when I was 400 pounds,” she said.
