Dr. Andrew Weil revealed simple happiness secrets on a recent episode of the Dr. Oz Show.
Dr. Oz asked Weil what was the most common question people ask him when they meet him in person.
Weil responded, “The commonest question I get is, ‘How can I be happier?’ ”
Dr. Weil, a physician and alternative health expert, said his No. 1 happiness secret is to surround yourself with happy people because moods are contagious.
“My simple advice is this: Spend more time with people who are happy,” said Dr. Weil, author of Spontaneous Happiness.
“Scientific research shows moods are contagious, so it’s worth your while to seek out people in whose company you feel happier and more optimistic.”
Dr. Weil said other proven secrets for boosting happiness include the following, as Celebrity Health & Fitness has reported:
- a healthy diet and
- actively practicing gratitude.
Weil also underscored the importance of a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet. Inflammation causes weight gain and mood disorders and dramatically accelerates aging.
“Perhaps the most powerful way to control inflammation is via diet,” Dr. Weil wrote in his bestseller, True Food.
Weil, a graduate of Harvard undergrad and Harvard Medical School, has himself struggled with depression despite his many accomplishments. Dr. Weil, who has made the cover of Time magazine twice, is the author of almost 20 books on health, aging and happiness.
