John Goodman looks fantastic after his 100-pound weight loss on a Mediterranean-style diet, but joked he’ll regain it all soon.
“Just wait another six months and I’ll be back to normal,” Goodman joked on the “Today Show” (see video). “That’s the way it usually goes.”
John reportedly lost over 100 pounds, but said he doesn’t know how much he weighs. Still, he looks fantastic, and said his clothes fit better.
“I have no idea how much I lost; I didn’t weight myself,” said Goodman. “Clothes fit nice and I can go to nice clothing stores.”
John recently told Howard Stern he slimmed down with diet and exercise, saying his weight loss secret was portion control.
“I decided to stop stuffing food into my mouth every five minutes,” said Goodman. “Turns out I was just eating all the time. Anytime I had my hands open or free, I shoved something in my mouth.”
The 6-foot-2 John, who once weighed over 400 pounds, appears to have lost more than 100 pounds based on his before-and-after photos.
John Goodman’s weight loss secrets were a Mediterranean-style diet that focuses on fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruit, as Celebrity Health & Fitness has reported.
The Mediterranean diet, which is based on the traditional eating plans of the Italian, Greek and Spanish cultures, prevents heart disease and promotes natural weight loss, said Michael Ozner, author of The Complete Mediterranean Diet.
Studies show the Mediterranean diet — which emphasizes healthy fats such as olive oil and avocados, vegetables, lean proteins, beans, nuts, and seed — also promotes longevity, and prevents high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s.
Goodman quit drinking and smoking in 2007, and works out 6 days a week with a trainer.
Not surprisingly, Goodman — who looks years younger — is thrilled with his weight loss. “I just wanted to change my lifestyle,” said John. “You look in the mirror every day and go, ‘I gotta deal with this schmuck?'”
