Kim Kardashian, who recently lost 42 pounds with the low-carb Atkins diet, said her weight loss inspiration is throwback photos of herself.
While many people look at bikini photos of celebrities like Jessica Alba to inspire them, Kardashian looks at old photos of herself for fitness motivation.
In a post on her subscription website, Kim shared a video she made during a 2014 visit to Thailand where she showed off her post-baby weight loss after giving birth to daughter North.
“I was pretty proud of myself,” said Kardashian. “I had gotten into really good shape, I had lost some weight. I think I lost all my weight at this point. So I look back now at photos like this that kind of inspire me and I remember, “Okay, I did it then, I can do it now.”
Kardashian recently lost 42 pounds after giving birth to son Saint in December 2015. The 5-foot-2 Kim, who weighed 190 pounds at delivery, now weighs 148 pounds after losing 42 pounds on the Atkins diet.
Kardashian wants to lose an additional 28 pounds to reach her goal weight of 120 pounds.
Kim’s weight loss secrets were the low carb Atkins diet, intense exercise and waist training, as Celebrity Health Fitness has reported.
Under her Atkins plan, Kardashian is limiting her daily carb intake to about 40 grams a day. This isn’t the first time Kim has relied on the low carb, high-fat Atkins diet to lose weight.
In 2014, Kardashian lost 56 pounds in six months with an Atkins diet plan that limited her daily carb intake to less than 60 net grams, Examiner reported.
Low carb, high-fat diets like the Atkins and ketogenic diets promote rapid weight loss by inducing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.
Dr. David Ludwig, author of Always Hungry? Conquer Cravings, Retrain Your Fat Cells, and Lose Weight Permanently, agrees. Ludwig lost 20 pounds in 3 months without feeling hungry or counting calories on a low-carb diet.
By reducing carbs and eating more healthy fats, you can accelerate weight loss and enjoy consistent energy, said Dr. Ludwig, a physician and nutrition professor at Harvard.
In addition to Atkins, Kardashian also exercised almost every day and wore a waist trainer several hours a day to narrow her waist and hips.
Kim said her throwback bikini photos remind her to not get frustrated when she doesn’t lose weight quickly. “I have to be patient,” said Kardashian. “You can do it, it will just take time. Stay focused, and don’t let anything get you off track.”
