Michelle Pfeiffer celebrated her 58th birthday on April 29, and looks as gorgeous as ever.

Pfeiffer, who runs 4 to 6 miles a day on the treadmill, switched to a vegan diet several years ago to improve her health and boost longevity.

Michelle says reading the book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and seeing former president Bill Clinton lose 30 pounds on a vegan diet inspired her to overhaul her diet.

The age-defying effects of vegan and vegetarian diets are no surprise to Dr. David Katz, director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center.

“A diet of minimally processed foods close to nature — predominantly plants — is decisively associated with health promotion and disease prevention,” said Dr. Katz, author of Disease-Proof.

Dr. Neal Barnard agrees. “A vegan diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, is full of antioxidants which help protect the body from damage by free radicals,” Barnard wrote in his book, the 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart.

Other celebrity vegans include supermodel Christie Brinkley, who credits a vegan diet for her smoking-hot bikini body at age 62.

Michelle Pfeiffer admits that looking good is a major motivation for her vegan diet lifestyle, but she also wants to make sure she’s around to see her two children grow up.

“Vanity is right under there, but I have to say that it’s a close second with wanting to live long,” said Pfeiffer.
