Oprah Winfrey is so happy with her 30-pound weight loss that she inspired longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham to adopt the Weight Watchers diet program.
While Stedman doesn’t need to lose weight, Oprah said he likes counting the Weight Watchers points to stay healthy at age 65.
Winfrey, 62, said having a Weight Watchers buddy has made her weight loss journey so much easier and more enjoyable.
“For me, it’s so much better when other people are also counting points,” Oprah said on a conference call.
Oprah, who once tipped the scales at 237 pounds, has lost and regained huge amounts of weight during the past 30 years.
Now 61, Winfrey said she has finally found the secret to weight loss without hunger or deprivation: the Weight Watchers diet, exercise, and meditation.
“Weight Watchers has given me the tools to have accountability to myself,” said Winfrey.
The Weight Watchers program focuses on portion control, mindful eating and a point system that enables dieters to keep track of their caloric intake.
Oprah also works out almost every day, doing yoga and cardio exercise on the treadmill or elliptical trainer.
Winfrey said meditation is also an important part of her weight loss program, and recently held a free meditation workshop with Dr. Deepak Chopra.
Dr. Chopra lost 20 pounds with meditation, mindful eating and yoga, as Celebrity Health Fitness previously reported. Chopra said meditation promotes natural weight loss by reducing stress.
Stress disrupts the appetite regulating hormones ghrelin and leptin, and causes belly fat storage. Reducing stress is a natural, effective way to lose weight, said Dr. Chopra.
Deepak discussed other weight loss, happiness and meditation secrets in his bestseller, What Are You Hungry For?
Among the weight loss tips Dr. Chopra shared include the following:
- Recognize when you’re feeling emotional.
- Don’t eat when you feel negative emotions like guilt, shame or anger.
- Only eat when you’re physically hungry.
- Don’t multitask while eating.
- Avoid processed foods.
- Eat organic whenever possible.
- Try meditation. Sit quietly for 10-15 minutes to clear your mind.
Dr. Chopra also suggested consuming ginger tea, which boosts metabolism, makes you feel full, and aids digestion. Chopra also shared his secrets for mental/emotional fitness and happiness in Super Brain.
