Mama June Shannon, the mother of reality TV star Honey Boo Boo, credited a low-carb diet and 3-mile daily walks for her jaw-dropping 150-pound weight loss.
Mama June, who started out at a size 28, slimmed down to a size 16 with consistent diet and exercise, as Celebrity Health Fitness previously reported.
In a recent Instagram photo, Mama June’s face looked dramatically slimmer after her 150 pound weight loss. June’s cheekbones are visible, and her double chin is smaller.
“I went from like a [size] 28 to a 16 — and these pants are a little too big!” said June.
“Honestly, when I first started losing weight, it was just being more active, being busy with the show and doing more things with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”
Shannon, a former couch potato, also started exercising regularly, walking 3 miles a day outside or on the treadmill.
Walking is an excellent workout that’s low-impact, aids weight loss, prevents depression, and improves mood, say fitness experts.
Mama June, a former junk food addict, reduced portion sizes and limited carb intake to lose 150 pounds, TheImproper reported.
Low carb, high-fat diets like the Atkins and ketogenic diets accelerate weight loss by encouraging the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Maria Emmerich, author of Quick and Easy Ketogenic Cooking.
Other celebrities who have weight on a low-carb diet include Kim Kardashian, who lost 80 pounds in 7 months, and Alyssa Milano, who lost 46 pounds in 6 months with the Atkins diet.
Mama June is proud of her weight loss and has a new leash on life. “I’m happy with the way I am now,” she said. “But I was also happy with myself when I was 400 pounds.”
