Lindsay Vonn, the only American woman to ever win Olympic gold in downhill skiing, has finally come to grips with her body insecurities. She tells all in a new book and is showing off her confidence by posing nude to promote it.

Lindsay kicked off her promotion campaign for “Strong is the New Beautiful,” by posting a nude photo on Instagram. Of course, her private part are strategically covered.

Even so, there’s no question she epitomizes the book’s theme, although it wasn’t always so, despite her athletic prowess.

“It’s taken me 31 years to finally be confident with my body and who i am, and I can’t wait to share this with you!” she wrote.

She credits “hard work and a lot of personal growth.” She explained in a “Today” show interview:

“I think I’m strong when it comes to working out and everything I do on the mountain, I feel confident in myself. [But] a lot of the time, I don’t feel that confident. I have my insecurities like anyone else. Being on the mountain is the only time I feel 100 percent sure of myself.”

Lindsay’s insecurity stemmed from the fact that she is more muscular than most women because of all her training. It made her question her femininity and where she fit in and led to insecurities.

“I’m not your typical body type. I have insecurities. I’m very self-conscious. When I’m standing next to Emily Blunt, I don’t compare to that. That’s always been really tough for me,” she said.

‘I have a lot of great friends in Hollywood and know a lot of great people, but I don’t think I can compare. I’m bigger, I’m muscular and I don’t think I can fit in.’

In the book, Vonn writes about fitness, food, and attitude, according to publisher HarperCollins. “Vonn wants women to stop thinking about ‘losing weight fast,’ and instead focus on loving their bodies for what they are and what they can do.”

The champion skier details the workouts and diet she followed to excel in her sport, and draws from the lessons she learned to help women bolster their self-confidence and build a better body image.

Despite her stellar record on the ski slopes, Vonn also suffered several injuries that sidelined her for almost two years in 2013 and 2014. During that time she had to deal with illness, and depression.
