Selena Gomez sent shockwaves through her fanbase by publishing a photo on social media that shows her lying on her side with a bandage on her arm and a yellow medical warning risk band that appears to say “fall risk.” Has Selena’s health taken a turn for the worse?

That was the big question facing her fans.

Selena has health problems in the past involving lupus. In October two years ago, she revealed that she had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for the disease, which caused her to gain weight.

Health concerns became an issue in 2013 when tabloid reports claimed Gomez had entered rehab for drug addiction following the cancellation of the Asian and Australian legs of her world tour.

“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” she said at the time.” That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke.”

Selena’s health has continued to be an issue.

She was spotted smoking cigarettes, which have been known to trigger lupus outbreaks, during a stint in a Nashville mental health facility last October.

Released last night, the latest photo shows her wearing a yellow “fall risk” band on her wrist. It lets medical personnel know that a patient needs assistance to walk, usually because of temporary illness-related weakness.

“What’s this pic trying to convey? Attempted suicide? Lame.” wrote one commenter.

That may have been a reference to Gomez’s role as executive director in the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” about a teen suicide. The show has been accused of “glamorizing” the subject.

Photographer Petra Collins, who shot the image provided some clarity. She said the photo was taken after Selena underwent a Lupus treatment and was released from the hospital. It had nothing to do with the Netflix series.

But it may be more than a coincidence. Selena was diagnosed with lupus in 2012, but only revealed details about her health condition on the eve of the release of her album Revival, which sold well.

That led some critics to claim she was using her illness to promote the album. This time around, the first single, “Bad Liar,” from her latest album will be released on Friday.
