Avril Lavigne apparently believes money isn’t everything. She’s reportedly skated from her billionaire boyfriend Phillip Sarofim.
The ‘Complicated’ singer revealed earlier this year she had been romancing the billionaire in secret. But now the word on the street is that they’ve called it quits after almost two years together.
Avril and Phillip have decided to go their separate ways, although as of the time of writing there has been no official confirmation from either of the pair, UsWeekly magazine.
A slew of other tabloid magazines have jumped on the story, which suggests there is some truth to the reporting.
The news comes almost a year after the 35-year-old singer admitted she had been dating the 33-year-old tech entrepreneur since last February. They had celebrated their first anniversary together on Valentine’s Day, she revealed.
“I’ve dated a couple people over the last few years, but obviously I don’t really wanna talk about it. Actually, it was our one year anniversary on Valentine’s Day,” she said.
Avril was in high profile marriages to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, from 2006 to 2010, and to Nickelback rocker Chad Kroeger from 2013 to 2015.
Avril said this year she has “good connections” with both her former spouses.
The ‘When You’re Gone’ singer said: “I’ve had really great relationships and good connections and bonds. Some might say because we’re Canadian but before him, Deryck Whibley from Sum 41, we keep in touch and like our moms hang out.
“They were like my long terms. Deryck and I were together for six and a half years and that’s a long time. It’s a whole chunk of your life. Chad and I are still friends and we work together. I’m glad it’s like that, it makes me happy,” she explained.
Avril also said her former partners were still “like family” to her.
“They’re just good people. We had marriages, we lived together, I knew their families, they knew mine, we just stayed close and there’s a mutual respect … Chad, in particular, we’re actually really close, because that was a more recent relationship,” she added.
“He was with me through a lot and is a really protective person in my life. He’s still like family. I didn’t know that it would be that way, and I’m really glad it is because we were friends and we made music together. We’ve just kept the friendship and continued having a working relationship, as well.”
Phillip is the son of Fayez Sarofim, who is heir to the Sarofim family fortune. He worked as a fund manager for a number of Dreyfus family stock funds, is an original and second largest shareholder of Kinder Morgan and part owner of the NFL team Houston Texans.
Fayez, who was born in 1929, is the son of an Egyptian aristocrat and agricultural magnate. He spent his early life as a member of Egypt’s political and wealthy elite in modern Heliopolis.
Sarofim and Lavigne were first spotted together at dinner in Los Angeles in March 2018. They reportedly met through friends and had been dating for a few months at the time, according to People.
They were last spotted together shopping in West Hollywood in June.
Lavigne burst onto the music scene when she was 16. She signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records worth more than $2 million.
Her debut 2002 studio album, Let Go (2002) gave birth to the skate punk persona that has earned her the title “Pop Punk Queen.” She was a rocker amid a sea of pop princesses.
Lavigne has sold more than 40 million albums and over 50 million singles worldwide. She’s the third-best-selling Canadian female artist of all time, behind Celine Dion and Shania Twain.
Which may explain why love and not money is the biggest motivator of her relationships.
Lavigne’s sixth studio album Head Above Water was released this past February through BMG, and just missed the Top 10 on the Billboard albums chart.
